Monography, the Italian studio founded in 2010 with a singular focus on architecturally minded interiors, created the Montreal Back Sofa Console as a piece that quietly redefines the role of a console table. Handcrafted in Italy, this designer console table transforms the negative space behind a sofa into a considered moment of display and structure.
Structural columns rise from a lacquered base to frame shelves of embossed glass — a material that catches light differently with each angle, lending texture without visual weight. Metallic accents punctuate the composition, drawing the eye along the horizontal plane. The lacquered finish, built up through layers characteristic of Italian atelier production, carries a depth of colour that shifts subtly under changing light. It is a piece as much about what it reveals — the objects placed upon it, the room beyond — as about its own form.
At 150 × 40 × 63 cm, the Montreal sits low enough to trace the back of a sectional without interrupting sightlines, yet offers meaningful surface area for books, ceramics, or sculptural objects. The restrained 40 cm depth ensures it never encroaches on circulation, making it equally effective as a room divider in open-plan residences or a gallery-like display element against a wall. Monography offers a range of lacquer colours and finishes on request, allowing the piece to be calibrated precisely to an existing interior scheme.

Frequently asked questions
Can the lacquer colour be matched to a specific interior palette?
Yes. Monography works with a broad spectrum of lacquer tones and finishes. Contact us with your project details and we can coordinate colour matching directly with the atelier.
Is the embossed glass suitable for everyday use?
The textured surface of embossed glass is notably forgiving — it conceals fingerprints and minor dust far better than polished glass, making it well suited to pieces that are touched and used daily rather than simply admired.
