The Portland bed by Malerba draws on nearly eight decades of Italian furniture-making to create a piece that commands a room without raising its voice. Handcrafted in Italy by a house founded in 1946, this Italian design bed channels the Malerba tradition of structured silhouettes and meticulously lacquered surfaces into a contemporary bedroom statement.
The headboard is the defining gesture — an architectural framework that rises with deliberate proportion, lending the bed a sculptural gravity more often found in built environments than in bedroom furniture. Solid wood construction underpins every line, with precision-fitted joinery concealed beneath lacquered finishes that carry Malerba's decades-long mastery of surface treatment. The result is a bed that reads as both furniture and architecture, where every edge and plane has been considered.
Two configurations accommodate different spatial ambitions. The 201 × 225.4 × 105 cm format brings the Portland's full presence into more contained rooms or single-occupancy settings, while the 341 × 225.4 × 130 cm version extends that architectural headboard across a generous width suited to couples and expansive master suites. Both share the same commanding 225.4 cm depth, ensuring the headboard's proportions remain intact regardless of width. Multiple lacquer colour options allow the Portland to integrate seamlessly with existing palettes — from muted neutrals to richer, more expressive tones.

Frequently asked questions
Can the lacquer finish be matched to a specific interior scheme?
Malerba offers a range of lacquer colours across their collection. For guidance on available finishes or to discuss a particular palette, contact us and we will coordinate directly with the atelier.
What size bedroom does each variant require?
The 105 cm-wide format fits comfortably in rooms from approximately 12 m², while the 130 cm version — at over 3.4 metres wide — is best appreciated in master bedrooms of 18 m² or more, where the headboard's full span can breathe.
