Patricia Urquiola designed the Round Mirage Rug for Gan Rugs, the Valencia-based atelier that has shaped Spanish textile craft since 2001. This hand-knotted designer rug distils Urquiola's fascination with visual perception into a floor piece that feels as much like a work of art as a functional surface — a quiet assertion of Spanish craftsmanship in New Zealand wool.
Overlapping squares and circles interlock across the rug's surface, their edges dissolving into one another through precise colour placement during the knotting process. The effect is kinetic: geometric forms appear to shift and recede depending on the angle of light and the viewer's position in the room. New Zealand wool gives each knot a softly irregular texture that amplifies this optical depth — something no flat-printed surface can replicate. Over years of use, the wool retains its colour saturation and resilient hand, ageing with the quiet dignity the material is known for.
At 210 × 300 cm with a 2 cm pile height, the Round Mirage commands generous living rooms, dining areas, and open-plan spaces where it can anchor a seating group or define a zone beneath a table for eight. Its scale and graphic presence also suit hospitality settings — boutique hotel lobbies, private members' clubs — where a single statement piece replaces the need for layered decoration. Multiple colourways are available, allowing the palette to be tailored to each project.

Frequently asked questions
Can the colourway be selected to match a specific interior scheme?
Gan Rugs offers the Round Mirage in several palette options. Contact us with your project details and we can confirm current availability and recommend the most suitable colourway.
How does the optical effect respond to different lighting conditions?
The overlapping geometric forms gain depth and movement as light shifts throughout the day. The effect is most pronounced in rooms with multiple light sources — natural and artificial — striking the surface from varying angles.
